Auto Springs Coil Type

Auto springs has various type and one of those is the coil spring, these are manufactured by forming spring steel into coiled configuration. The twisting strength of the spring is used to absorb shock and vibration. Coil springs are frequently used in auto suspension. Coil springs have an advantage over leaf springs which is the other type of auto springs.

Advantage of coil springs

4. Provide a soft and comfortable ride

The primary disadvantage of coil springs when compared with leaf springs is their inability to absorb shock from direction other that the vertical. This means that the overall energy-absorbing capability of a coil spring is less than that of the leaf spring. In recent years, coil spring use has become more and more common in ordinary passenger car suspensions. This is because they provide a smoother ride, are cheaper, and allow space within the car to use for other purposes. All of these considerations are very important in the passenger car market of recent years.

A coil spring is essentially a round steel spring rod wound into a coil configuration. The auto springs twisting resistance to force and motion absorbs vibration and shock. Coil springs can be manufactured to have a low spring constant. However, their vibration and shock absorbing ability is less than that of leaf springs. Because of the inability of coil springs to absorb lateral energy, some sort of helper mechanism is required.

Some designs of coil auto spring provide a smooth and comfortable ride because of a variable coil pitch and wire diameter. This allows different portions of the springs to absorb different level of force.
