Auto Diagnose: Steering wheel vibration when braking indicates a problem on car front end. If the occurence of steering wheel vibration when braking only then we can conclude that the problem involves the car front brakes and the most common cause is a misalignment of front pad and disc. Front brakes are connected to the steering wheel thru the front end, which is why when there is a problem on the front brakes it will be detected thru the behavior of the steering wheel such as steering wheel vibration when braking.
When your brake pad and brake disc is misaligned, it will result to un-even contact between brake pad and brake disc when braking, thus a vibration occurs. The vibration will then be transferred to your steering wheel which you can be felt when you brake the car. Most common cause of misalignment is a warped front disc, other possible reason is a worn out or loose front wheel bearings.

Car Repair Advice: Bring the car to a reputable auto repair shop and ask a mechanic to first check the car front wheel bearing for any looseness or wear, if the result is ok, then the problem will be a warped brake disc, have the brake disc machined to fix the problem.
However, when your brake disc is machined, it is necessary to replace your brake pads so that it will mate and align to the brake disc, this will fixed the steering wheel vibration when braking.
