Making Your Car Cool...And Safe!

We all want to be cool, don’t we? I remember when I was younger, looking up to the seniors with their cool new cars. I wanted to be like them. Now, I’ve graduated from college and have a great new car. Sounds good, right? Without sounding like a totally safety conscious dweeb, car accidents are too common now. For example, in 2010, there were an estimated 5,419,000 crashes (30,296 fatal crashes), killing 32,999 and injuring 2,239,000. That is shocking. Now, if you’re reading this and thinking “get to the cool stuff”, I will. But this is a post about how to be safe while looking cool. They sound like contradictions, but let’s find ways to make it possible.

The first thing to address is the belts. Just don’t touch them, they are there for a reason, and that is your safety. Some people think that not wearing their belt is okay. It’s really not. Even if you take your belt off for a second because it’s uncomfortable, just stop the car before you adjust your belt. That split second where you’re not looking at the road is the split second you could really injure someone or yourself, or even worse. And having a phone call from a car accident attorney because you’re getting sued doesn’t sound like my idea of fun.

We need tunes in the car! That goes without saying. It’s very easy to install a major sound system that can only fit in the trunk. But having one of those blasting out Kendrick Lamar so loud you can’t hear your passenger talking is a sign for trouble. Listening to loud music while driving doesn’t just cause lost focus, it will seriously damage your hearing. The alternative? Use your mobile phone and plug that into the car. The average mobile phone has volume limitations, and will be less distracting. Just DO NOT use your phone while driving!

It’s tempting to go through all those late night drive thrus when you get a new car. It’s like a rite of passage. But you don’t want your car to stink of 7 day old burger? Get some car smells to make your interior smell like you’re eating your fast food by an ocean.

Starbucks, Coffee, Green, White, Logo, Drive Thru

Have you been thinking about changing the color of your headlamps to something like blue or red? While it’s not illegal, drivers still raise concerns about their impact on visibility. Think about where you drive. Are you planning on doing long journeys across country roads late at night where there is poor visibility and not well lit? If so and your headlamps are a very dark blue you will be asking for trouble!

The same applies to tinting your windscreen and covering it in stickers. Sure it looks cool, but is it gonna be too distracting to you when you’re out on the road?

So, there are a few things to think about when giving your car an upgrade. Remember to drive safe, obey the speed limits. Oh, and were you wondering about getting that car bouncing thing? Don’t even bother thinking about it!
