What Do You Do When Your Car is Overheating?

What do you do when your car engine is overheating? Let’s say you are driving then you saw that the engine temperature gauge starts to go up to that red zone that is an indication that the engine is overheating.

What do you do when a car is overheating?

1. Stop in a safe place. The first thing to do is do not continue to drive the car, stop on a safe place. If you continue driving it might set the car on fire. Stop the car off the road away from traffic as possible.

2. Do not off the engine. Once you stop apply the parking brake and turn on the hazard light. Do not turn off the engine. Turn the air conditioning off and get out the car.

3. Open the hood. Open the hood so that wind will pass by the engine. But if there is steam and coolant that comes out from the hood do not open at once. Wait until there is no more steam and coolant coming out before opening the hood. when the water temperature gauge goes down stop the engine.

4. Do not remove the radiator cap. Never attempt to remove the radiator cap while the engine is hot because there is pressure inside the radiator which will spurt the hot water once the cap is opened, this will cause serious injury specifically burn.

5. Check coolant level. After the engine cools down, check if the coolant level on the reservoir is low, add some coolant if necessary, then bring the car to the repair shop and asks the mechanic to check the cooling system for any possible problem.
